About the Trent 60 / MT30:

The Siemens Industrial Trent 60 is a 53-66 MW three-shaft, axial flow, aeroderivative industrial 50/60 Hz gas turbine based on the Rolls-Royce Trent 800 high-bypass turbofan aircraft engine developed for the Boeing 777. The Rolls-Royce MT30 is a 36-40 MW marine gas turbine engine. The LM2500 is used on U.S. Navy DDG 1000 Zumwalt Class destroyers and Freedom Class Littoral Combat Ships (LCS).


Utility and industrial power generation in 50/60-Hz markets, including combined-cycle and cogeneration installations. Marine applications (Rolls-Royce MT30) include military surface vessels and large commercial cargo vessels. Industrial Trent machines have been used in mechanical load drive duty (gas boost duty) officially since 2006, when machines were ordered by Qatar.


The Trent was privately developed by the prime contractor. Its development was sponsored in part by the Government of Canada and the Province of Quebec.

At the beginning of 2016, approximately 125 Industrial Trent machines had been manufactured and installed.


In the electrical genset arena, the Industrial Trent 60 faces competition from the Alstom (now General Electric) GT8C2 and the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) PWPS FT8 Twin Pac. In the mechanical drive arena, the Industrial Trent 60 competes with the GE LM6000PC Sprint.
